  • Applying to College

    Most Chenango Forks Seniors who are applying to four-year schools use the Common Application. It is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants may use to apply to any of more than 700 member colleges and universities. Apply using the Common Application Here!

    Paying for College

    The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form that must be prepared annually by current and prospective college students, it is used to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. The application is made available October 1st of each year and seniors and their parents should complete it as soon as is possible after that date. Each fall Chenango Forks High School is lucky enough to be part of the Trio Program sponsored by Binghamton University. This program provides free financial aid assistance to seniors and their parents in order to set up a meeting just come to the Student Services and Counseling Office.     NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

    The New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) helps eligible New York residents pay tuition at approved schools in New York State. Depending on the academic year in which you begin study, an annual TAP award can be up to $5,165. Because TAP is a grant, it does not have to be paid back. For more information or to apply visit the TAP website.

    NYS Excelsior Scholarship

    Today New York State is leading the way to college affordability. New York is now home to the nation's first accessible college program - The Excelsior Scholarship. Under this groundbreaking program, more than 940,000 middle-class families and individuals making up to $125,000 per year will qualify to attend college tuition-free at all CUNY and SUNY two- and four-year colleges in New York State.

    In order to apply, students must:

    • Be residents of New York State
    • Attend a SUNY or CUNY two- or four-year degree program
    • Take 30 credits per calendar year (including January and Summer sessions)
    • Plan to live and work in New York following graduation for the length of time they participate in the scholarship program

    NCAA Clearing House – If you plan to participate in college athletics at either the Division I or Division II level you MUST file for initial eligibility with the NCAA Clearinghouse. This should be done as soon as possible on the NCAA website.

    Transcript Release Form – A Transcript release form must filled out for each college you apply to. These forms are available the Guidance Office. You should complete this form at least two weeks before you would like the transcript to arrive at your college. Please see the guidance office secretary to get a copy.

    Selective Service – Attention all 17 and 18 year old male students: If you are not registered with Selective Service, you must do so within 30 days of turning 18. This is not a school requirement, it's the law. If you fail to register, it will affect your ability to receive Federal college loans and grants, and student aid in most states. In addition, it will affect your ability to receive job training or to gain citizenship if you are a male immigrant seeking U.S. citizenship. Register on the Selective Service webiste.

  • PSAT/NMQT

    PSAT/NMQT-(PRELIMINARY SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST/NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFYING TEST)


    Test Date: October of each year
    This test is required for all students who wish to be considered for a National Merit Scholarship. A high-test score is required to become a semifinalist. This is also the test African American students must take to compete for scholarships from the National Achievement Program for Outstanding African American Students. The PSAT/in most is a multiple-choice test that measures verbal and mathematical reasoning ability important for success in college. It is recommended that this test be taken in the junior year. This test is not required for college admission. Registration is done by the student in the guidance office.

    Chenango Forks STEAM Academy

    GRADES 11 & 12   

     The Chenango Forks STEAM Academy was designed to create a variety of internship and job shadowing opportunities for Chenango Forks High School students in local businesses and industries to train students in entry-level positions in preparation for full time employment after H.S. If you are interested in taking advantage of this internship opportunity in your senior year, or are interested in shadowing see Mr. Groover, Workplace Coordinator.

    Leadership Opportunities for Juniors

    RYLA YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE  

    The conference is sponsored locally by the Rotary Club of Nimmonsburg. RYLA is a nationally know leadership program sponsored by Rotary International which provides an intensive training program for community you leaders. The leadership program emphasized fundamentals of leadership, communication skills, personality qualities, and problem solving as well as confidence building a community building.     American Legion Boys State

    Boys State is a week-long program that immerses high school youth (currently completing their junior year) in citizenship and leadership training. They learn the practical aspects of government as it exists in New York State and come to recognize that the individual is integral to the character and success of government.They also participate in physical fitness, teamwork and other activities, under the guidance of American Legion counselors and U.S. Marines.     American Legion Girls State

    Empire Girls State is a hands-on week-long educational workshop, focusing on Americanism and the political process, sponsored by the New York State American Legion Auxiliary. The goal of the program is to help students to better understand democratic ideals and the part we as individuals play in carrying out these ideals. This program, which has been accredited by the National College Credit Recommendation Service (National CCRS) is a non-partisan attempt to teach high school junior girls about government, politics, and AmericanismVisit their website for more information.

    Students Inside Albany Conference

    Each year the regional League of Women Voters of Broome and Tioga Counties sponsors students' attendance at the inside Albany conference. The conference takes place in the late winter of each year and is designed to increase students’ awareness of their responsibility in representative government and to provide the tools necessary for meeting that responsibility. Students will tour the Capitol and observe both the Senate and Assembly in action by spending an afternoon shadowing their legislator. All their expenses are covered, including travel and three nights in Albany. Students inside Albany conference website.

    College Entrance Exams:

    SAT (SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST):The SAT is given on several Saturday test dates throughout the year. The SAT is required for admission to certain colleges and universities. Most institutions will accept or prefer scores from junior year testing (spring and summer before senior year). A few schools require it to be taken in the senior year, no later than December. Some institutions requiring the SAT also require one or more achievement tests for admissions. Students should refer to each college's catalog for specific information about which tests are recommended.

    ACT (American College Test):The ACT is required for admission to some colleges and institutions including all state supported universities and some public community colleges in Illinois. Illinois high school students who want to compete for Illinois State Scholar Awards must take this test in their junior year. The ACT assessment format is comprised of four tests: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. It will provide four test scores and a composite score plus two sub-scores in English and Reading and three sub-scores in Mathematics. For additional information, visit the guidance office.

  • Juniors typically take their admission exams in the spring of their junior year. The SAT II subject tests are often required for highly competitive schools or programs. Admissions requirements vary from school to school. Consult your prospective school when deciding which tests to take. Learn more about each of the tests here:

    If you took classes through the TC3 while attending Chenango Forks High School, you will need to have your official TC3 transcript sent to the college you plan to attend.

  • Selective Service Information

    Attention all 17 and 18 year old male students. If you are not register for the selective service, you must do so within 30 days of turning 18.   This is not a school requirement, it is the law.

  • Students: Are you interested in Summer Drivers education and 5-hour courses? SUNY Broome is offering both. 

  • The Excelsior Scholarship, in combination with other student financial aid programs, allows students to attend a SUNY or CUNY college tuition-free.

  • The NCAA Eligibility Center certifies whether prospective college athletes are eligible to play at the NCAA Division I or II level. It does this by reviewing the student-athlete's academic record, SAT or ACT scores, and amateur status to ensure conformity with NCAA rules.
